Kids – Why We Fight

Super Eddie Livingston

After two and a half years and four surgeries, twenty rounds of chemo, radiation, immuno-therapy, scans and pokes, “Super” Eddie Livingston passed away from stage IV neuroblastoma. Mom Jeanine says her mission now is to raise awareness. “We want people to know that pediatric cancer is the number one killer in children by disease, and that it’s grossly underfunded. Seven children will die today, and that’s seven too many.” Dick Vitale, local celebrity and sportscaster founded the Eddie Livingston Research Grant, which is part of the V Foundation and donates funds raised to pediatric cancer research. Amon Moreno

Amon was diagnosed at 16 months old with high risk Neuroblastoma November 12th 2012. Tragically, Amon ended his battle with cancer a few days ago. His father David wrote, “I am forever changed for the better by his presence and short time with us here on this planet. I will eternally be honored to be your father, and forever proud you are my son, sweet warrior of light.” Rest in peace, Amon. We will continue to fight this beast!keepamonkeepingon.com.

Support Operation Holiday in drive to help children

Operation Holiday attempts to provide a better holiday season to thousands of families with children. Last year, Jason Heckman, who was recently diagnosed with neuroblastoma, and his family were featured. That year, over $50,000 was raised which allowed the program to provide food and gifts for 237 families including 629 children. Love/Hate Fran, Colin Ferrell and Katie Taylor rally support for Merryn

4 year old Merryn Lacy was diagnosed with neuroblastoma this past July while her and her family were visiting London. Since her diagnosis, Merryn has gained some amazing supporters, including Love/Hate Fran, Colin Ferrell, and Katie Taylor who each donated prizes that are up for auction to raise funds for Merryn. Daughter’s battle with cancer inspires nonprofit, booklet

Calli Calvert is a 24 year old, four time neuroblastoma fighter survivor. Calli was diagnosed at age 12 and relapsed several times, endured more than 45 weeks of chemotherapy and underwent three major surgeries while traveling throughout the country for treatments. However, that did not hold her back; Calli recently earned her degree from Cal Poly and married her high school sweetheart. Calli’s father Frank Kalman stayed by his daughter’s side throughout her journey and transformed his experience as a parent into a nonprofit that funds pediatric research and has now written a booklet called “Steps to Hope” to help parents find the best possible care for their own children. This 29 page, step-by-step booklet gives parents insight to accessing medical care and offers practical resources and helpful tips. The $10 booklet is available at www.endkidscancer.org. Charity gives girl from South Croydon dream trip to Disneyland

Megan Hierons, 10, who suffers from Paraplegia caused by her pre-existing Neuroblastoma received her dream trip to Disneyland thanks to Caudwell Children. Caudwell Children is a national charity organization that provides practical and emotional support to disabled children and their families. Caudwell desperately needs donations to grant more dream trips for other disabled children and their families. Last fundraising event of the year in aid of Henry

Hugs for Henry will be holding a Christmas Fair in Plympton, UK, for four-year-old neuroblastoma fighter Henry Hallam. The goal is to raise £500,000 for Henry’s cancer treatment. Best of luck, Henry! plymouthherald.co.uk.

Charity event to help two-year-old Bradley

On Saturday December 28, 2013, there will be a charity event for 2 year old neuroblastoma fighter Bradley Lowery. Bradley’s parents, Gemma and Carl, are campaigning to raise £500,000 for treatment in the US to fight any relapses he may suffer.
