Kendall was diagnosed with Stage IV neuroblastoma on June 23, 2017. She endured a valiant 16 month battle braving numerous rounds of chemotherapy, a ten-hour resection surgery, tandem bone marrow transplants, x-ray and proton radiation therapy, and immunotherapy. She was treated at three different hospitals.
Despite all these harsh treatments, Kendall still laughed, danced, played and made the most of each day. She taught us all how to choose joy when facing big battles. Sadly, Kendall never made it to NED (no evidence of disease) status. During radiation treatment, new tumors grew. She started on a chemo/antibody trial. She suffered through two rounds of that only to find out she once again progressed. This time it had spread to several areas. Our home hospital had just acquired DFMO and was ready to give it to Kendall but unfortunately she never qualified because of her disease burden.
On October 13, 2018, Kendall passed away. Fighting cancer changes you forever and our family vows to live out our days helping other families battling the same disease. Neuroblastoma is a very aggressive cancer and the treatment plan is grueling. That is why we have teamed up with Beat Nb so we can help fund more research and clinical trials to help those fighting and those yet to fight. We need better treatments for our sweet children.
