Delafield, Wis., April 26, 2016 – Gold In September (G9) launches its G9 Penny Wars program with support from the Green Bay Packers and McDonald’s® Restaurants of Southeastern Wisconsin for the 2016-2017 school year to raise awareness, inspire action, and support childhood cancer. Schools that participate will receive coupons good for a McDonald’s® fries or apple slices. The school who raises the most money will receive a visit from a Green Bay Packers player and recognition from McDonald’s® Restaurants of Southeastern Wisconsin.

G9 Penny Wars is a week-long community based outreach program that takes place at an elementary, middle, or high school, creating friendly competition between grade levels, classrooms, clubs and/or school sports teams. G9 Penny Wars inspires youth philanthropy, leadership, and entrepreneurship with an opportunity to take action and make a difference for a cause that directly impacts their population, pediatric cancer.

The passion for giving back to the kids in their communities and the natural fondness for gold makes the Green Bay Packers and McDonald’s® Restaurants of Southeastern Wisconsin a great fit with G9. “The G9 Penny Wars program is a great way for kids to help kids and make a difference in the community one penny at a time,” said Robert Pyles, president of the association of local McDonald’s owner/operators.  “We hope the rewards from McDonald’s help motivate the kids to do all they can for this amazing organization.”

Since 2013, G9 Penny Wars continues to grow. “[It’s] an amazing way to celebrate community and kids coming together for positive change,” says Brian Balfany, Associate Principal of Swanson Elementary, one of the schools to have participated in G9 Penny Wars.

G9 focuses on helping every child, everywhere until cures for childhood cancer are found, and G9 Penny Wars empowers every child, everywhere to easily be a part of the solution. Annie Bartosz, 14-year old founder of G9 says, “A lot of kids don’t realize they have the potential to make a difference in the world.” For the 2016-2017 school year, G9 hopes to expand and enlist 100+ schools from Wisconsin to join and host G9 Penny Wars.
